OUR STORY

My dad has always been generous. On Father’s Day of this year, I remember thanking him for teaching me that there is no such a thing as a stranger. My dad instinctually helps people everywhere he goes; it’s his nature. Growing up, I saw him be generous with his time, generous with his money, generous with his words, to every person he met; because no one was a stranger. Everyone was family- and if not that- atleast a friend.
So, on that warm Oklahoma spring afternoon in 2017, when I got the call that he had helped a woman in need- that I had sent his way- I reminded him that she was in need because her husband was deployed.
“I can’t charge her anything then.”
“Then don’t.”
He was doing handyman types of things on the side for a little bit of extra money after he retired from his career in the tool and die industry. To him, being able to help her for free was worth more than the couple extra dollars he could use to spoil the grandkids.
The next day, he called me again, this time with an idea. He wanted to help other individuals whose spouses were deployed… and he wanted to do it for free. Over the next couple weeks, his idea grew, this was a need. He told people everywhere he went about his idea and each time the words fell from his mouth, people were floored. Why had this need not been seen or met already?
He found more spouses in need and helped them. He heard stories from people who could have truly used a service like this when their spouse were deployed. How being alone sometimes caused them to let things stay broken or hindered them from buying certain birthday or Christmas presents because they couldn’t put together a trampoline or a bicycle. Those instances weren’t the only things keeping these people from calling someone out. Some people didn’t feel safe.
“This is a need and we are going to fill it.”
The Honor Crew was formed to serve the needs of deployed military spouses. We want to be there to fix the sink, the toilet, the fence. We want to be there to help you build that bicycle. We want to be the first person you call when you are in need. If we can’t fulfill your need, then we will do everything in our power to get you intouch with someone who can.
Our services are free and you can depend that our services are there to keep you safe.
You protect. We Serve.
Let us serve you.
